Meeting with Amina MohammedOn February 21, 2018 a meeting of the Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Amina J. Mohammed and representatives of the youth of the Republic of Belarus was held within the framework of the Regional Forum of National Coordinators on Sustainable Development Goals. The meeting was attended by the staff of the INA “Evolutio”. During the meeting youth representatives got the opportunity to participate in the discussion with Amina Mohammed and ask questions of interest.

Amina Mohammed stressed the importance of holding meetings in such format, as they give an opportunity to listen to the young generation and take into account its views. At the beginning of the meeting, she asked participants to share their views on the work of the United Nations and to suggest ideas for improving the work of the Organization as a whole. She was told about the opening in Minsk of a school in honor of the UN mission employee Ruth Waller, discussed the conditions for creating a start-up on the systems for environmental monitoring and much more. A student of the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University asked about the importance of the UN Model for young generations. Amina Mohammed said that she often meets the UN Model participants of Nigeria already working as a staff in the UN structures. For her, it is very important that during such events people get to know a lot of new things, in particular about the SDGs, and in the future they work for the benefit of society. Also, Amina Mohammed drew attention to the fact that there were girls in the organizing committee, which made her very happy.

The First Deputy Secretary-General focused on the climate change, gender equality and creation of fair and effective institutions as well. She shared her impressions of the visit to our country and singled out a visit to the Republican Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children, calling the work conducted to create worthy treatment exemplary for many countries. A lot of time was devoted to the problem of fighting HIV/AIDS. Amina Mohammed expressed her confidence that work on preventing the spread of infection should lie not only on various organizations and state bodies, but also on the people themselves.

And despite the tight schedule and limited time frame, the meeting turned out to be very sincere and extremely useful for the youth representatives.
